John started his career with MINI as a Motoring Advisor and within less than three years became one of the top performing Sales Managers in the nation. In his six year career with MINI, his success has allowed him to travel across the country and across the globe.
Have you worked in the automotive industry before? What brought you to the MINI team?
Before MINI I sold Mercedes-Benz. I walked in the showroom and was amazed by the vibe and passion of the employees. It looked like everyone was having fun with each other and especially with customers. The product is so unique and unlike anything else in the market: performance, passion, efficiency, and function all rolled into one awesome vehicle!
Why should a person work for a MINI dealer over other car dealers?
I joined the MINI team in October of 2011, and by September of 2014, I was promoted to New Car Sales Manager. The entire MINI USA field team members are all very supportive and know everyone’s name. You’re not just a number, you are a family member. Because of MINI, I’ve been to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Thermal Raceway in Palm Springs, Croatia, Montenegro, etc.
What is the typical successful MINI Sales Manager like? What characteristics would you use to describe them?
Number one characteristic is passion for the brand and passion for cars in general — someone who leads by example, teaches, sets expectations, and empowers their team members. Characteristics may include motivating, passionate, forward thinker, creative, organized and analytical.
What is the most exciting or best part about your job?
MINI is always a want and not a need. It isn’t just a means of transportation, but it is an exciting experience every time a customer gets to drive his or her MINI. So the best part of my job is making dreams come true!
What types of training are offered to MINI dealer staff?
MINI has a comprehensive online training schedule and also instructor lead classes. At the dealership level, we have a sales process path that we use for our new advisors in addition to a shadow program where a veteran advisor will mentor a new advisor.
Do you have any brand partnerships or sponsorship partners for sales and/or employee benefits at your dealer location?
Our advisors get a car allowance as part of their pay plan to enable them to drive a MINI. We also have a partnership with M1 Concourse.
